NRM Planners Network Inaugural Forum 2009

The inaugural forum held in the SARDI Auditorium at Waite Campus on Monday 9th, November 2009, generated strong interest and was attended by over 60 people. Background to the forum was given by Director of the NRM Research Alliance, Kathryn Bellette and a formal welcome was given by Wendy Bell. The theme for the afternoon, “How can we best integrate land use planning and NRM planning?” was addressed by a panel of four experienced practitioners:

 Stephen Smith, Director of Policy and Planning, Adelaide & Mt Lofty Range NRM Board,
 Wendy Bell, Planning Consultant, NRM Council Member,
 Andrew Grear, Director of Planning, Planning SA, and
 Mike Penhall, Snr Policy Officer, Local Govt/Water Quality, SAMDB NRM Board.

The panel explored the connections between land use planning and NRM planning and how during their careers they have worked towards integrating them. A rigorous question and answer session Chaired by Kathryn Bellette then generated much discussion between the audience and speakers and areas of research need were identified.
