The Role of the Alliance

The NRM Research Alliance is a collaboration between natural resource managers and researchers. It includes those working in biophysical, and socioeconomic disciplines that contribute to natural resource management science and technology. The Alliance provides a unique opportunity to develop a unified approach to NRM across SA, incorporating natural resource managers and scientists, business and industry.

The NRM Research Alliance is one of 7 within the Constellation SA framework, which strengthens collaboration between researchers within and across disciplines and facilitates translation of research into practical solutions.

Many of the issues facing natural resource managers are shared by government NRM bodies and are of interest to academic institutions. Investment in collaboration, facilitating and sharing new knowledge and applications, will provide South Australia with more options for solving resource use and management issues and extend South Australia’s competitive edge.

The Alliance will help to focus and coordinate NRM research effort and investment, playing a critical role in the provision of vital evidence based knowledge, and building our understanding of the large overarching NRM challenges confronting the state. It will assist in developing capability to manage these issues and provide real options for decision making within the strategic governance frameworks already established in South Australia.

The focus of the Alliance is to facilitate large scale, multidisciplinary projects that have significant outcomes that can be applied to natural resource management across the state of South Australia.

In summary, the purpose of the NRM Research Alliance is to:
  • Foster and strengthen linkages between the users and providers of NRM science, technology and innovation;
  • Foster and strengthen collaboration between providers of NRM science, technology and innovation to increase capacity and capability;
  • Provide strategic advice on the adoption of NRM science, technology and innovation; and
  • Attract and direct investment into NRM science, technology and innovation that will support improved NRM outcomes.
